This ISN’T SPONSORED, I was just SO impressed with all of the fun flamingo things that we found at the Dollar Tree for my sister’s recent baby shower! And of course, it would work awesome for a flamingo themed bridal shower, birthday party or summer party!
We had an open house style baby shower after her baby was born. We did an open house so people could come and go and get to visit with my sister and hold the baby. It worked out really well and everyone stayed longer than we anticipated. The flamingo theme was PERFECT for a sweet new baby girl!
So let’s get started with flamingo themed fun!
Hands down, the highlight of the flamingo party decorations was the balloon barland (you can see it behind my sister’s head! ;) They thought I purchased it, it turned out so well!
DIY TROPICAL BALLOON GARLAND
Can you believe I made this tropical balloon garland ALL with items from the Dollar Tree?
It was so fun and EASY to make, too! Literally EVERY guest commented on how cool and pretty it was! And the nice part is, you can make it 1-2 days in advance and the balloons hold up just fine. It fit our flamingo theme perfectly!!
I couldn’t find a picture of the green felt flower decorations that I cut up for the large leaves, but you can’t miss them at the store! They have multiple colors, but like I said, I wanted some more green foliage and they worked perfectly!
It took a little arranging and rearranging to get the balloons just right, but once I did, wow! Did it look awesome!!
Here are the Dollar Store items that I used for it:
– Decorative craft rope
– Balloons, various shades of pink, white and orange
– One grass hula skirt
– Green leaf decorations
– Two bunches of flowers
– Rubber bands
Now that I’ve made this tropical balloon garland once, I’m excited to try it for other events other than our flamingo theme. It made such a big impact and was the focal point of our baby shower!
How to make the DIY Tropical Balloon Garland:
1. Blow up balloons to various sizes. I only used 3 or 4 full-sized balloons, the rest I filled up half and 1/3 as full.
2. Attach the balloons to the rope with rubber bands. I used rubber bands to tie the balloons to the rope. This allowed me to arrange and move them around because they stretch.
3. Cut bunches of the grass skirt into 12″ lengths. Basically, grab a small handful of the strands of the grass skirt, cut, and tie the whole bunch on to the rope in between the balloons. I did about 6 bunches.
4. Add in the flowers. I just made a hook at the end of the wire stems and hooked them onto the rope.
5. Cut apart the green flower decorations so that there are one or two leaves on each piece. Stick these in between the balloons. I didn’t attach them to the rope because they stayed in place on their own. If you were going to have this outside you’d want to attach them with rubber bands.
“BORN TO STAND OUT” FREE FLAMINGO PRINTABLE
Since it was for a Flamingo Baby Shower, I thought this free printable was PERFECT! What baby girl isn’t “Born to Stand Out”? I had this picture frame from Ikea, but of course, you could grab a 4″x6″ frame from the Dollar Tree.
SUPER EASY FLAMINGO CENTERPIECE
Seriously, this flamingo themed centerpiece couldn’t be any easier!! But it really made a big impact and help set the tropical feel of the party.
For the centerpieces I used these Dollar Tree items:
– One plastic flamingo
– Fake flower
– Pink boa
– Extra green pieces from the tropical balloon garland for filler in the jar. I also used mason jars that I had at home, but you could use a vase or jar from the Dollar Tree, too!
How I made the easy (and cheap!) flamingo party centerpieces:
1. Put green filler in jar
2. Put flowers in jar
3. Place flamingo (standing on metal legs that come with it) in jar
4. Cut about 18″ of pink boa and place around flamingo
Voila! Your centerpiece was done. Super easy and everyone loved them!!
DIY FLAMINGO DONUT HOLE CUPCAKES
The heads of the flamingos on the cupcakes are from Dollar Tree straws!!! I pulled the heads off of the straws and stuck them into the donut holes to make these flamingo cupcakes!
Ok, so the tropical balloon garland was the fan favorite at the baby shower, but these flamingo cupcakes were a close second!!! I got the idea from this: My sister craved glazed donuts her WHOLE pregnancy. She also LOVES frosting. So donuts + frosting + flamingo theme = super cute flamingo donut hole cupcakes!
And the frosting was VERY simple and easy on these cupcakes. I am in NO way an expert with frosting, this is cream cheese frosting from Aldi, but the colors are what made it super fun! And everyone commented on how good they were! Not bad for a white boxed cake mix and pre-packaged frosting!
NO-BAKE STRAWBERRY MOUSSE DESSERT RECIPE
These were another favorite! Strawberry Mousse & Lime Jello dessert cups that look like watermelons! SO cute and fun for a summer celebration. And matched our flamingo theme PERFECTLY! You can find the recipe HERE!
Oh, and I forgot to mention: these taste incredible! I’m not usually a lime Jello fan, but the mixture of strawberry and lime is pure perfection!!
PAPER STRAWS & STRAWBERRY LEMONADE
I also love how these pretty paper straws add instant jazz and life to any flamingo party! We were supposed to have real limes for the lemonade, but somehow they got forgotten so I printed some off quick!
We then added Strawberry Lemonade (from the Dollar Tree — in 2 liter bottles). It was good…but even better with some champagne added to make a strawberry lemonade mimosa!!
FLAMINGO + TROPICAL SERVING DISHES
And of course, the most obvious use of the Dollar Tree when throwing a party, is the fun serving dishes! Often, I can’t believe that they’re only one dollar!
And the best part is that we’ll have fun reusing many of the flamingo and tropical items throughout the summer!
I hope you found a few helpful ideas for your flamingo themed baby shower or party!
