Quite frankly I wasn’t quite ready to tackle a Halloween craft yet, but let’s face it, Halloween candy has been out since August. So this year I’ve decided: I’m not going to fight it! We have four kids ages 2-7 and holidays are a lot of fun to celebrate with them, so why not start early?
In Minnesota it is already starting to feel like fall, the evenings are cool, the days are getting shorter and the bean fields are starting to turn that golden color. So I ordered a pumpkin spice latte, we dug out our fall tote, put on the pumpkin table cloth and made a pumpkin bundt cake.
And as I was looking for a non-messy Halloween craft to do with the kids, I came across these balloon mason jars and thought “that fits perfectly with their attention span” plus, as far as Halloween crafts go, it didn’t look too messy…our pumpkin tablecloth would be safe ;)
So we got some balloons and 1/2 pint size mason jars and it wasn’t long before we had other ideas beyond the candy corn jar. A mummy and pumpkin were born!
Once we had the Halloween colored balloons on the mason jars, we decided that we needed some cute jar tops to go on top for the finishing touch. Hence, I whipped these up, you can click on the link to see the image and print, there are a bunch of different designs :)
All that was left was to add candy (the kids’ favorite part!) and then to find a safe place to hide them until October 31st ;)
For the ages of our kids these were the perfect Halloween craft with mason jars. It didn’t take too long to put them together and they are pretty durable. The balloons also give the jars a really fun texture, the kids loved it.
I purchased the balloons and mason jars at Walmart and then found this jute twine at the dollar spot at Target. Overall, this Halloween craft is fairly budget friendly!
